Newspapers reported the location, date, and time of the execution. Employers gave their workers the day off and provided them with transportation to the event.
200,000 people showed up. When it came time to carry out the executions they were performed in such a way that the condemned did not fall from too great a height, thus their necks were not broken and they did not die quickly, taking as long as 10-20 minutes of agonizing pain to die by strangulation.
When the last prisoner had expired the security forces allowed the crowd to approach the gallows where they promptly ripped off buttons, shredded clothing, and kicked and beat the corpses.
At least on this earth, at that time, justice was served. Never forget.
