Hear, O our God, how we are despised! Return their reproach on their own heads and give them up for plunder in a land of captivity.
Nehemiah 4:4, 5
Hear, O our God, how we are despised! Return their reproach on their own heads and give them up for plunder in a land of captivity.
[5] Do not forgive their iniquity and let not their sin be blotted out before You, for they have demoralized the builders. {NASB}
~
The walls were being rebuilt around Jerusalem, but when the leaders of the nearby provinces heard about it, they threatened to stop the project (vv. 1-3).
In these two verses, he (Nehemiah) prayed to God to stop the enemy's plan and to let the Jews continue their work. Nehemiah prepared for an attack (vv. 13-14) so they carried on the work and when the enemies heard Nehemiah’s response, God frustrated their plan (v. 15).
When we go to the Lord in prayer, we need confidence that He hears our call – and will act on it – like He did in this example.
